Asian markets trade mostly higher on Monday

Asian markets are trading mostly higher on Monday tracking Wall Street’s gains last Friday, while investors are awaiting the release of key US economic data later in the week including the PCE inflation data and the Federal Reserve’s minutes of November monetary policy committee meeting. Moreover, Japanese shares gained as investors are remained optimistic about a 25-basis point rate cut by the US Fed in December after data showing consumer sentiment in the US improved less than expected in November. Although, Chinese and Hong Kong shares declined amidst worries over elevated geopolitical tensions and possible Trump tariffs on China.

Nikkei 225 up by 651.15 points or 1.67% to 38,935.00, Straight times rose 5.76 points or 0.15% to 3,751.78, Taiwan lifted by 44.05 points or 0.19% to 22,948.37, KOSPI added by 34.88 points or 1.39% to 2,536.12, Jakarta Composite enlarged by 107.83 points or 1.48% to 7,303.40, and FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI higher by 14.90 points or 0.94% to 1,604.68.

On flip side, Shanghai down by 14.25 points or 0.44% to 3,252.94, and Hang Seng declined 56.87 points or 0.30% to 19,173.10.
