Akzo Nobel to double its headcount to 4,000 by 2015

Akzo Nobel India is planning to double its headcount to 4,000 by hiring 2,000 people in India by 2015. The company is aiming for the Indian operations to become a one billion euro (about Rs 6,800 crore) entity by 2015. In this regard, the company has announced an investment of Rs 200 crore to set up a new manufacturing plant in Madhya Pradesh to ramp up operations in the country.

During the second quarter ended September 30, 2011, AkzoNobel India’s total income stood at Rs 301.5 crore against Rs 239.3 crore in the same period last fiscal, a growth of 26%. The company, which sells 'Dulux' brand of paints, is betting big on the Indian market, envisaging to become even bigger than its top market Brazil and China in the long term.

Akzo Nobel India (formerly ICI India) is engaged in manufacturing and marketing of paints, speciality chemicals, adhesives and starch. The company's origin goes way back in 1926 when Brunner Mond & Co, one of the four companies was combined to form ICI in UK. This company operated as a trading office in Calcutta to sell alkalis and dyes.
