VHP workers hold protest against UP govt in Delhi

Hundreds of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists on Monday held a protest in Delhi against the UP govt's decision to ban the religious event in Ayodhya. According to police, the VHP activists gathered at Jantar Mantar and marched up to parliament street police station around 11.30 p.m. The police used water cannons to disperse the protesters after they tried to break barricades.

The Uttar Pradesh government said it won’t relent and continue to enforce ban on the VHP’s chaurasi (84) kosi pad yatra, the outfit’s activists demonstrated at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar and Parliament Street on Monday and on Sunday stopped VHP from carrying out its '84 kosi parikrama yatra'.

Shouting slogans against the UP and the Central government, the VHP said that the ban on the yatra amounted to interference in their religious affairs. They also burnt effigies of Samajwadi Party and Congress leaders.
