Larsen and Toubro (L&T), construction and engineering major plan to return to West Bengal after 34 years. The company is set for big projects in West Bengal under the new dispensation.
L&T is looking for large-scale infrastructure projects of above Rs 3,000-4,000 crore in the state, similar to its projects in Delhi and Mumbai airport. The company has done some small projects in West Bengal like a glass furnace at the Steel Authority of India’s (SAIL) Asansol unit, AJC Bose road fly over and ESI hospital in Joka. However, all of them range between Rs 200-500 crore.
The company will start working on new projects in the state, it has just given ideas for the projects and it will now start to ascertain the cost factor.
The entity’s net profit after tax for the fourth quarter rose by 17.25% at Rs 1686.21 crore as compared to Rs 1438.10 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2010. Its total income has increased by 13.23% at Rs 15754.03 crore for the quarter under review from Rs 13913.09 crore in the corresponding previous quarter.
