RPower to go ahead with power capacity addition plans despite challenging times

07 Sep 2013 Evaluate

Reliance Power’s (RPower) proposed plans to double its power generating capacity to 5,000 MW in the next 12 months, remains on track despite very challenging times. Besides, the company also is on the way to complete Sasan ultra mega power project (UMPP)

Most of the power generators are going through challenging times given the unavailability of fuel, delays in land acquisition and environment clearances, and 'unprecedented' rise in coal prices and depreciation in rupee.

Further, the company too has two projects totalling 6,400 MW stuck due to fuel issues-Krishnapatnam UMPP and the 2,400 mw-Samalkot Project, which is ready for commissioning but is yet to receive gas to operate its plant. The company has held up work at the Krishnapatnam UMPP on concerns that the steep rise in cost of imported coal will make the project unviable.
