Tata Power Delhi Distribution (TPDDL), a joint venture (JV) of Tata Power and the Government of Delhi, has commissioned India’s first 33/11 kV grid substation with dry type power transformers at Model Town, New Delhi. The newly commissioned grid substation will help in providing reliable and quality power supply to over 80,000 existing customers of Model Town and Azadpur areas. It will also feed power supply to several schools falling in the area like GD Goenka, Srijan, Queen’s Mary and a few Delhi government run senior secondary schools.

The grid substation, developed on the green grid design model, is equipped with dry type power transformers of 20 MVA, used for the first time in India. It also contains nickel-cadmium batteries and LED lights, which reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission. The grid is also safe for congested areas like Model Town. It is an unmanned grid and will be remote-operated from TPDDL’s state-of-the-art Supervisory Controlled and Data Acquisition Center. The grid has been built at a total cost of Rs16 crore. It will further improve the reliability of power supply and felicitate load growth in Model Town and Azadpur areas.
