FIIs infuse Rs 2,500 crore in Indian securities market this month

21 Nov 2011 Evaluate

The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have maintained their bullish stance on the Indian equity markets, as the FIIs have invested around Rs 2,500 crore in the Indian securities market.  As per the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) data, from November 1 to 18, FIIs have purchased stocks and debt securities worth Rs 37,755.50 crore and sold securities valued Rs 35,286.60 crore, which means that, FIIs made net inflow of Rs 2,468.7 crore.

Market experts are of the view that the FIIs have been bullish on emerging markets like Brazil, Russia, India and China, given their better growth prospects in the wake of debt crisis in European economies. This is the second successive month, when Indian securities market has seen net inflow. The FIIs have invested a net of Rs 1,014.30 crore in October after the heavy outflow in August and September.

During August, FIIs have pulled out around Rs 8,000 crore from the Indian stock and debt market, which is highest monthly withdrawal since October 2008. And in September, they withdrew around Rs 1,866 crore. The heavy selling by FIIs in August and September is believed to be caused by the euro-zone debt crisis and slowdown in the US economy. However, in November, FIIs invested around Rs 1,356.40 crore in equity market and Rs 1,112.30 crore in debt market.

Meanwhile, the Bombay Stock Exchange’s (BSE’s) 30 share Sensex declined by 7.5% or 1,333.5 points in this month so far. In the last trading session, the BSE finished at 16,371.51 declined by 90.2 points from its previous close.

In the current year, FIIs have invested around Rs 23,212 crore in the Indian stock and bond markets compared to about Rs 1,79,674 crore in the whole of 2010. The number of FIIs registered with SEBI stood at 1,742 as of November 2011, whereas the number of sub-FIIs was around 6,129 in November 2011.
