Tata Power surges on plan to set up a coal-fired power station in Myanmar

Tata Power Company is currently trading at Rs. 83.40, up by 1.65 points or 2.02% from its previous closing of Rs. 81.75 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 82.10 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 83.95 and Rs. 82.10 respectively. So far 235844 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 113.20 on 05-Dec-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs. 68.25 on 06-Aug-2013.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 83.95 and Rs. 77.60 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 19779.56 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 32.47% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 48.22% and 16.08% respectively.

In a bid to expand its portfolio overseas, Tata Power is planning to set up a coal-fired power station in Myanmar. This would be the first project by the Tata Group Company in the South-East Asian nation and will be commissioned in 2019-20. The proposed power plant will be located in Ngayok Kaung, Ayeyarwaddy region, and would have captive coal berthing arrangements.

Further, the company is building hydroelectric projects in Bhutan, Georgia and Zambia. The firm is also developing two wind power projects in South Africa.

The Company has an installed generation capacity of 8521 MW in India and a presence in all the segments of the power sector viz. Generation (thermal, hydro, solar and wind), Transmission, Distribution and Trading.
