Zydus Lifesciences rises as its arm enters into option and license agreement with Mereo

Zydus Lifesciences is currently trading at Rs. 1194.00, up by 14.00 points or 1.19% from its previous closing of Rs. 1180.00 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 1198.60 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 1198.60 and Rs. 1151.40 respectively. So far 1.01 lakh shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 1205.00 on 11-Aug-2026 and a 52 week low of Rs. 835.85 on 02-Apr-2026.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 1205.00 and Rs. 1093.30 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 1,19,101.96 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 75.01%, while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 18.15% and 6.83% respectively.

Zydus Lifesciences’ wholly-owned subsidiary -- Sentynl Therapeutics, Inc. (Sentynl) and Mereo BioPharma Group plc (Mereo), a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on rare diseases, have entered into an option and license agreement for the U.S. commercial and global manufacturing rights to alvelestat for Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Associated Lung Disease (AATD-LD). Alvelestat is a neutrophil elastase inhibitor being readied for Phase 3 and, if approved, would be the first oral treatment for this rare, progressive genetic lung disease affecting an estimated 50,000-80,000 individuals in the United States.

The option and license agreement grants Sentynl the exclusive right to acquire a license to commercialize alvelestat for AATD-LD in the United States, with Mereo retaining commercial rights in the rest of the world. The agreement also grants Sentynl global rights to manufacture alvelestat for AATD-LD and on option exercise, it provides funding for the alvelestat Phase 3 development program, which could be initiated in early 2027.

Mereo will receive a non-refundable option fee from Sentynl and, on exercise of the option, the Company would also receive up to $40 million in upfront and R&D payments until NDA filing. Under these terms, Mereo would also be eligible to receive double-digit tiered royalties on U.S. net sales of alvelestat.
