Jain Irrigation Systems and carbon removal marketplace Supercritical have signed a deal for biochar carbon removal credits from the company’s operations in 2026 and 2027. The agreement covers up to 19,000 tonnes of durable carbon removal from the company's industrial biochar facility in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, which has been producing since early 2026.
The company converts residues from its food processing lines and from agricultural crops into biochar via a gasification process that turns carbon into a stable form that stays locked in soil for centuries. Every output of the process is used within the company's own operations. Syngas replaces fossil fuel at its industrial facilities, and the biochar goes into the company's downstream agriculture businesses and back to farmers as a soil amendment. The project is undergoing verification through Puro.earth, with an independent BeZero Carbon rating underway.
Jain Irrigation Systems is the world’s largest micro-irrigation systems provider.
