The import of vegetable oils (edible & non-edible) during January 2014 stood at 905,814 tons, consisting of 871,527 tons of edible oils and 34,287 tons of non-edible oils. As per data compiled by the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India, this is a drop of 22% as compared to 1,157,130 tons of import in January, 2013. However, the overall import of vegetable oils during November 13 to January 14 was reported at 2,917,832 tons compared to 2,766,088 tons, up by 5%.
Import of RBD Palmolein increased to 2.31 lakh tons in January 2014 compared to 1.64 lakh tons in previous month, while CPO import has fallen to 3.4 lakh tons from 6.92 lakh tons in previous month. During November 13-January 14, Import of refined oil has up by 58% and reported at 580,333 tons compared to 367,054 tons during the same period of last year. However, import of crude oil is down by 2% and reported at 2,270,855 tons compared to 2,325,300 tons during the same period of last year.
Besides, Palm Oil import decreased to 2,192,858 tons from 2,298,473 tons during the same period of last year, However, Soft oils import has increased to 658,330 tons from 393,881 tons during the same period of last year.
Current stock of edible oils as on February 1, 2014 at various ports is estimated at 705,000 tons (CPO 330,000 tons, RBD Palmolein 175,000 tons, Degummed Soybean Oil 80,000 tons, Crude Sunflower Oil 105,000 tons and Canola Rape Oil 15,000 tons) and about 810,000 tons in pipelines.
Further, import of non-edible oils during January 2014 is reported at 34,287 tons compared to 24,499 tons during the same period last year. The overall import of non-edible oils during November 13 to January 14 is reported at 66,644 tons compared to 73,734 tons during the same period of last year.
