UCO Bank disposes of bad assets worth Rs 1,500 crore to ARCs

UCO Bank has sold bad assets worth Rs 1,500 crore to asset reconstruction companies (ARCs). This is the second straight quarter when the bank has resorted to selling bad assets to ARCs. In the quarter ending December 2013, the bank had sold off stressed assets to the tune of approximately Rs 322 crore. During the quarter, it had made provisions against bad debts and non-performing assets of Rs 812 crore. Fresh slippages stood at Rs 597 crore. The restructured asset portfolio stood at Rs 12,870 crore as on December 31, 2013, with loans worth Rs 1,400 crore being restructured during the quarter (Oct-Dec).

Uco Bank has reported over three fold jump in its net profit at Rs 314.53 crore for the quarter as compared to Rs 102.47 crore for the same quarter in the previous year. Total income of the bank has increased by 12.80% at Rs 4919.04 crore for quarter under review as compared to Rs 4360.88 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2012.

The bank’s gross NPA for the December 31, 2013 quarter of the current fiscal stood at 5.20%, as compared to 5.53% in the same quarter of the previous year. Besides, bank’s Net NPA stood at 3.06% as compared to 3.32% in the same quarter of the previous year.
