NTPC climbs in process of setting up 50 MW solar power station

NTPC is currently trading at Rs. 167.65, up by 1.25 points or 0.75% from its previous closing of Rs. 166.40 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 166.10 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 167.65 and Rs. 166.00 respectively. So far 4,014 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 203.15 on 07-Jan-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 152.00 on 23-Nov-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 168.50 and Rs. 159.00 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 1,38,235.00 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 84.50% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 11.66% and 3.84% respectively.

National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), India’s biggest power generation utility, is in process of setting up its biggest solar (green) power station of 50 megawatts in Rajgarh district at Madhya Pradesh entailing an investment of around Rs 700 crore. This will be the company's biggest non-conventional energy project which would be set up in Madhya Pradesh.

The company will sell the entire power generated from this project to the electricity-starved state of Madhya Pradesh. For this the government will soon ink a power purchase agreement with NTPC.

However, the company has already kick started the process of setting up 5 MW and 15 MW solar stations in Orissa, Himachal Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh. The company at present is working on generating over 100 MW solar power energy projects across the country.

Recently, NTPC had signed a contract agreement with Electricity Generation Company of Bangladesh on December 13, 2011 for providing operation and maintenance (O&M) services for the 2x120 MW gas based Siddhirganj Peaking power plant located near Dhaka in Bangladesh.
