ITC slips after government proposes to hike duty on Cigarettes in the range of 11%-72%

Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, in its maiden budget proposed to hike the duty on cigarettes by 11%-72%

ITC is currently trading at Rs. 341.20, down by -0.20 points or -0.06 % from its previous closing of Rs. 341.40 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 341.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 348.00 and Rs. 337.25 respectively. So far 1377115 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Re. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 386.75 on 16-May-2014 and a 52 week low of Rs. 285.40 on 28-Aug-2013.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 342.80 and Rs. 329.45 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 271902.46 crore.

The Institutions holding in the company stood at 53.94 % while Non-Institutions held 45.80% of company’s stake.

India remains one of the cheapest places to buy cigarettes in the world. A packet of medium-sized cigarettes here cost around Rs 150, while the same costs around Rs 250 in the US. In India the rates are comparable to other developing countries and are very affordable for most people.
