Essar Shipping inducts first MiniCape vessel into its operating fleet

Essar Shipping (ESL) has taken the delivery of MV ‘Kamlesh’ the first MiniCape vessel into its operations. The company has a total capex of $1 billion out of which $600 million is for acquiring 12 vessels and approximately $450 million is for acquiring two jack up rigs.

This newest addition to the company's growing fleet, MV Kamlesh, is a bulk carrier, 253 metre long, 43 metre wide vessel and has a cargo capacity of 105,000 dwt. The vessel is fully compliant with international maritime regulations in force as on date. It is the first vessel in a series of six vessels that ESL will be taking delivery of into its fleet by mid 2012.

These six modern state-of-the-art vessels built at STX Shipyard are specially designed shallow drafted vessels that will provide substantially higher cargo carrying capacity focused on draft conditions of Indian Ports.

Essar Shipping is one of the largest private sector shipping companies in India, owning the largest fleet of Capesize vessels. The company has a diversified fleet of 23 vessels, including VLCCs, Capesizes, Supramaxes, mini bulk carriers and tugs.
