HMT to teach technical skills to Indian Army personnel: Report

HMT will reportedly teach technical skills to Indian Army personnel at its tractor factory in Pinjore, to enhance their post-retirement employability.

The training programme for the first batch of 15 army personnel was launched by HMT on January 12, 2015. During the eight-week programme, army personnel will be trained in tractor manufacturing, including foundry operations, component manufacturing, assembling, repair and maintenance, painting and inspection. On the successful completion of the programme, they will be given certificates.

The skills will enable participants to seek employment in tractor manufacturing units and their authorised tractor service centres or open their own repair workshops after retirement from army.

HMT manufactures engineering goods like machine tools, watches, tractors, printing machines, die casting and plastic processing machinery, metal forming presses and bearings. It manufactures Mechanical and Quartz Analog watches.
