A consortium of Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd and ABB's Indian unit submitted the lowest bid for Rs 6,000 crore ($1.31 billion) power transmission project to be awarded by Power Grid Corp, according to sources. They have quoted about Rs 700 crore less than the estimated cost of 6,000 crores. The north eastern region would add 35 Giga Watt (GW) in the near future, while Sikkim and Bhutan together would add about 15 GW, regulatory filings showed.Siemens Ltd, the Indian unit of German conglomerate Siemens AG was the other bidder for the substation project. The board of Power Grid is yet to meet to finally announce the award of the project. State-run Power Grid declined to comment. ABB Ltd India is 52 per cent owned by its Swiss parent, which wants to raise its stake to 75 per cent.
