State Bank of India (SBI), in collaboration with Ezetap, the mobile point-of-sale service provider, has unveiled Chota ATM in Kerala. Chota ATM allows kirana store owners, taxi drivers, small businessmen, traders who are dealing with customers to turn their mobile device into both a cash withdrawal point as well as a credit/debit card payment terminal.
The merchants and traders who wish to use Chota ATM need to open a zero-balance account with SBI, and then use this system via Android or Windows based mobile phone or tablet. This PoS (Point of Sale) can then be used to accept payments via Debit/Credit card and used to withdraw cash as well, just like any ATM may perform.
SBI has registered 30.54% jump in its net profit at Rs 3100.41 crore for second quarter ended September 30, 2014 as compared to Rs 2375.01 crore for the same quarter in the previous year.
