McLeod Russel reports 13% fall in Q3 net profit

Bulk tea major McLeod Russel India has reported a net profit of Rs 117.11 crore for the quarter ended December 2011, down 13% from the corresponding period last year. Total sales during the period under review were higher at Rs 393.11 crore as compared to Rs 366.66 crore registered in the same period of 2010-11, up by 7.21%.

The company’s domestic sales were marginally lower at Rs 230.53 crore, down from Rs 235.15 crore in the corresponding period of 2010-11 while, sales outside India were higher at Rs 163.13 crore against Rs 131.51 crore in same period the 2010-11.

McLeod Russel India is the largest tea producing company in the world. In July 2005 McLeod Russel acquired Borelli Tea Holdings from the Magor family based in England and took over the 17 tea gardens of its Indian subsidiary Williamson Tea Assam. McLeod Russel is the largest tea exporter from India with a strong customer base in United Kingdom and Europe.
