Gemini Communication bags contract to power 1,000 telecom towers

Chennai-based, Gemini Communication has bagged contract from a large telecom operator to offer solar-power to 1,000 telecom towers in 2012-13. This contract is expected to fetch revenues of Rs 60 crore.

Powering a telecom tower with diesel genset typically cost Rs 80,000 a month, but with solar the cost could be brought down to Rs 50,000. Currently one lakh towers are off-grid, which represents the immediate potential to solarise. In addition, there are another 2 lakh towers that can also be powered by sun's energy.

Gemini Communication offers a wide spectrum of networking, services and security solutions. The company's product portfolio includes solutions for networking, security, storage, supervision and IT services.
