IVRCL Infra Bags Rs 1,550-cr project from highways authority

14 Jan 2010 Evaluate

IVRCL has won a road project for Rs 1,550 crore under the Design Build Finance Operate and Transfer model for a concession period of 25 years from the National Highways Authority of India. The company has been impacted by the political developments in Andhra Pradesh which has resulted in order delays, especially in awarding irrigation projects as well as execution and payment risks. As of December, irrigation projects from the State accounted for 29 per cent of IVRCL's order book.

In an effort to mitigate risk and provide confidence IVRCL has been consciously increasing its bidding in other segments. This road order comes after it recently bagged a BOT project in the oil and gas space through a consortium. After staying away from road projects, IVRCL has in recent times been actively bidding and bagging orders in this space.

The company, after a restructuring exercise, houses all its BOT projects under its subsidiary IVR Prime Urban. The parent company executes the contract work for these projects. This subsidiary already has four road projects close to commissioning stage.

As working capital is freed up from these jobs, the company is in a position to take on more development projects. The developer role in roads is likely to prove to be more lucrative for IVRCL than being a mere contractor.
