Shares of tea, coffee companies gain on FDI hopes

Tata Coffee is currently trading at Rs. 103.20, up by 7.65 points or 8.01 % from its previous closing of Rs. 95.55 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 102.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 107.35 and Rs. 101.80 respectively. So far 971518 shares were traded on the counter.

CCL Products (India) is currently trading at Rs. 240.35, up by 8.90 points or 3.85 % from its previous closing of Rs. 231.45 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 245.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 253.90 and Rs. 239.10 respectively. So far 97766 shares were traded on the counter.

Harrisons Malayalam is currently trading at Rs. 61.00, up by 5.30 points or 9.52 % from its previous closing of Rs. 55.70 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 60.70 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 63.90 and Rs. 59.25 respectively. So far 257959 shares were traded on the counter.

Andrew Yule & Company is currently trading at Rs. 26.15, up by 0.80 points or 3.16 % from its previous closing of Rs. 25.35 on the BSE. The scrip opened at Rs. 25.50 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 26.70 and Rs. 25.50 respectively. So far 221391 shares were traded on the counter.

Shares of tea and coffee companies were trading higher by up to 9% each on reports that the government is considering allowing foreign direct investment (FDI) in coffee plantation sectors.  The move will bring in foreign players with efficient technology, and ramp up coffee production in the country, thereby boosting India's coffee exports. Currently, 100% foreign investment is permitted through the government approval route in the tea plantation sector. However, FDI is not allowed in any other plantation sector or activity.
