HDFC Bank, the second largest private sector bank in India, is planning to open 36 new branches in West Bengal, taking the total number of branches to 200 in the state by the end of this financial year. Further, the bank had recently launched an awareness initiative ‘Dhanchayat’, an educational film. The aim of it is to raise awareness about the dangers of borrowing money from the unorganised sector, particularly in rural areas. This film has been launched under the aegis of 'Swachh Banking', the Bank's latest corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Through this, the bank aims to show the importance of transparency in financial dealings.
