Essar plans to shut Vadinar refinery from Sept 18

Essar Oil, the private-sector refiner, is planning to shut its 280,000 barrels per day (bpd) Vadinar refinery in Gujarat from September 18 for 35 days for a revamp and upgrade. The company is planning to raise the plant’s capacity to 360,000 bpd and increasing the complexity of the plant to process more ultra heavy and heavy crude and to produce Euro V-compliant fuel for exports.

The company is going carry out routine maintenance work through the shutdown besides hooking up new units and revamping some of the existing ones like the fluid catalytic cracker and crude unit.

The company has registered a growth of 2155.17% in its net profit at Rs 654.00 crore whereas the same was at Rs 29.00 crore for the year ended March 31, 2010. Its total income has also grown by 28.69% at Rs 47248.00 crore for the year under review whereas the same was at Rs 36716.00 crore for the previous year.
