ITC gains on the buzz to increase cigarette prices

ITC is currently trading at Rs. 264.15, up by 0.80 points or 0.30% from its previous closing of Rs. 263.35 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 264.95 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 265.00 and Rs. 261.75 respectively. So far 1,48,000 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 291.95 on 07-Feb-2017 and a 52 week low of Rs. 178.76 on 29-Feb-2016.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 272.00 and Rs. 261.15 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 3,20,364.00 crore.

The Institutions and Non-Institutions held 55.57% and 44.22% respectively in the company.

ITC is reportedly planning to increase prices of its leading cigarette brands, India Kings, Classic and Gold Flake, by around 11 to 13%. Packs with the new price tags will hit retail stores by the end of February 2017. The increase in cigarette prices was expected as the Union budget on February 1, had proposed hiking the excise duty on cigarettes between 2.5% and 6%.

ITC has business a interests in cigarettes, hotels, paperboards and specialty papers, packaging, agri-business, packaged foods and confectionery, information technology, branded apparel, personal care, stationery, safety matches and other FMCG products.
