Uttam Sugar Mills (USML) has received a communication from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) under section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, to close down the manufacturing operations of the Distillery Division situated at Barkatpur Unit till the compliance of its directions.
Accordingly, the company has temporarily stopped the manufacturing operations to comply the direction given by the CPCB. The company is examining the direction and taking necessary steps to seek the permission of CPCB to re-start the manufacturing operations of Distillery Division of the company and expect to re-start the manufacturing operations soon.
Uttam Sugar Mills is engaged in production of sugar, Ethanol and generation of power. The company has four sugar plants, which are located in northern India. One plant is located in the state of Uttarakhand and three plants in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
