Ashok Leyland rises on registering 11% rise in May sales

Ashok Leyland is currently trading at Rs. 25.30, up by 0.20 points or 0.80% from its previous closing of Rs. 25.10 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 25.30 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 25.30 and Rs. 25.15 respectively. So far 28,000 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 32.90 on 02-May-2012 and a 52 week low of Rs. 20.05 on 22-Dec-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 25.50 and Rs. 23.90 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 6,731.00 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 38.61% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 30.95% and 17.01% respectively.

Hinduja Group flagship firm Ashok Leyland has reported 10.79% increase in sales in May. The city-based company's total sales stood at 6,343 units in May 2012 as against 5,725 units in the same month last year. This excludes sale of Dost, the light commercial vehicle from the Leyland-Nissan joint venture. The company sold 2,305 units of Dost in May.

Ashok Leyland is the flagship of the Hinduja Group and a leading manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India. The company reported 13.24% decline in its net profit for the quarter March 31 at Rs 258.74 crore. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 298.23 crore in the same period last year. The company’s total income from operations increased 12.02% to Rs 4,311.02 crore from Rs 3,848.45 crore in the year-ago period.
