Ugar Sugar Works has received Closure notice for operation in its Ugar unit from Karnataka Pollution Control Board for the non compliance of the provision of Water Act 1974 and Air Act 1981. Accordingly, as per the direction of deputy Commissioner Belgaum, the company has stopped all the operations of the Ugar unit on August 4, 2017.
Moreover, the company has approached Chairman Karnataka Pollution Control Board for interim relief and also simultaneously filed appeal before the appellate authorities for stay of the operation of the order. Further, the company is expecting to receive the stay order in next couple of days.
Ugar Sugar Works has been involved in the manufacture of white crystal sugar for over 65 years. This white crystal sugar is manufactured in the grades of M-30. S-30 and SS-30.
