MMTC declines on reporting 54% fall in Q2 net profit

MMTC is currently trading at Rs. 633.95, down by 2.95 points or 0.46% from its previous closing of Rs. 636.90 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 635.00 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 638.00 and Rs. 631.05 respectively.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 1 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 1275.00 on 05-Jan-2011 and a 52 week low of Rs. 630.00 on 05-Oct-2011.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 670.00 and Rs. 631.50 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 63690.00 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 99.33% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 0.52% and 0.15% respectively.

MMTC has reported results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2011.

The company’s net profit for the quarter has tumbled 53.72% at Rs 18.85 crore as compared to Rs 40.73 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company’s total income has decreased by 4.77% at Rs 16051.01 crore for the second quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 16855.08 crore for the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

Hydrocarbon was the other area where the company suffered a downfall. Its revenue under this head nosedived from Rs 2,765 crore from September ended 2010 to Rs 691 crore for the corresponding quarter this fiscal. The minerals and ore business declined from Rs 784 crore to Rs 367 crore.

However, precious metals included gold helped the company as business under this head went up from Rs 12,137 crore to Rs 13,634 crore. The profit in this business also saw a sharp jump to Rs 25 crore from Rs 8 crore.

The sharp volatility in global commodity prices has hit the trading major which in any case operates in a low margin business.
