HPCL to operate Vizag refinery at about 60% capacity for 10 days

27 Aug 2013 Evaluate

Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) is likely to operate its 166,000 barrels per day (bpd) Vizag refinery at about 60% capacity for 10 days, due to shut down of its two secondary units. It will be closing one of the fluid catalytic cracker and a reformer as a precaution after a blast in the cooling tower, in which death toll now has risen to 9. The company has decided not to import fuel to make up for the cut in throughput but instead will buy more from private refiners.

HPCL operates two major refineries producing a wide variety of petroleum fuels and specialties, one in Mumbai (west coast) of 6.5 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) capacity and the other in Vishakapatnam, (east coast) with a capacity of 7.5 MMTPA.
