Bank of Baroda surges after CRISIL assigns ‘AAA/Stable’ rating to its Tier-II bond issue

Bank of Baroda (BoB) is currently trading at Rs. 583.75, up by 3.05 points or 0.53% from its previous closing of Rs. 580.70 on the BSE.

The scrip opened at Rs. 581.25 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 585.00 and Rs. 577.05 respectively. So far 58363 shares were traded on the counter.

The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 10 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 899.65 on 03-Jan-2013 and a 52 week low of Rs. 429.25 on 20-Aug-2013.

Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 612.20 and Rs. 562.10 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 24622.43 crore.

The promoters holding in the company stood at 55.41% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 35.12% and 9.48% respectively.

Credit rating agency, CRISIL has assigned its ‘AAA/Stable’ rating to the Rs 1500 crore Tier-II bond issue (under Basel III) of Bank of Baroda (BoB). The rating agency has also reaffirmed its rating on the bank’s existing debt instruments at ‘AAA/Stable’.

The distinguishing feature of Tier-II capital instruments under Basel III is the existence of the point of non-viability (PONV) trigger, the occurrence of which may result in loss of principal to the investor, and hence, to default on the instrument by the issuer.

BoB is among the top five banks in India, with total assets of Rs.5.5 trillion as on March 31, 2013. The bank had a domestic network of 4289 branches, with around 61 per cent of its branches in the semi-urban and rural areas, as of June 30, 2013.
