Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL), plans to set up a Coal to Liquid (CTL) plant in Angul. The commercial production of the proposed Rs 45,000 crore Coal-to-Liquid (CTL) plant is likely to start in 2017-18.
The plant will have an overall capacity of 80,000 barrels per day (bpd) equivalent of key oil products such as Diesel, Naphtha, and LPG. It will be commissioned by Jindal C N Fuels, a sister concern of JSPL with technology from Germany. A mega thermal power plant of 1,100 Mw capacity would also be installed as captive plant for the CTL project as water needed for the project would be provided by river Mahanadi.
Coal Gasification, Fischers-Tropsch synthesis (liquefaction), and Product Up-gradation, are three main sections of the CTL overall process. The process waste water would be suitably treated with full recycle ensuring Zero Liquid Discharge, in the process ensuring minimum water consumption. The project would envisage CO2 Capture/Storage & Sequestration in nearby underground Geological Formations & Aquifers.
