About Bharat Dynamics Ltd

Bharat Dynamics (BDL), established in 1970, is a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Defence and a manufacturer of Surface to Air Missiles (SAM), Air to Air Missiles (AAM), Anti - Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), Torpedoes, and Allied Defence Equipments. The company was incorporated on July 16, 1970 as ‘Bharat Dynamics Private Limited’ with the Registrar of Companies, Hyderabad under the Companies Act, 1956. The Board of Directors in their meeting held on October 07, 1970 passed a resolution for deleting the word ‘private’ from the name of Company and the name of company was changed to ‘Bharat Dynamics Limited’ pursuant to an amendment to the certificate of incorporation issued by the Registrar of Companies, Hyderabad. The company became a deemed public limited company under Section 43A of the Companies Act, 1956 with effect from July 01, 1975. Subsequent to the abolition of Section 43A of the Companies Act, 1956, with effect from December 13, 2000, the company again became a private limited company. Further, the company was converted to a public limited company and a fresh certificate of incorporation pursuant to conversion from private to public was issued by the RoC on October 27, 2017. The company has been listed in the Stock Market in March 2018 in Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange.

Since its inception, BDL has been working in collaboration with DRDO & foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for manufacture and supply of various missiles and allied equipment to Indian Armed Forces. Over the years, BDL has evolved as one among few industries in world having state-of-the-art facilities for manufacture and supply of Guided Missiles, Underwater Weapons, Air-borne products and allied defence equipment for Indian Armed Forces. BDL also offers Product Life Cycle Support for all equipment supplied and also refurbishment / life extension of vintage Missiles already available in the inventory of the Indian Armed Forces. While fulfilling its basic role as guided weapon system manufacturer, BDL has also built-up in-house R&D capabilities primarily focused on Design & Engineering activities. BDL is relentlessly working to contribute its part towards creation of a self-reliant India ‘Viksit Bharat’ in the area of Defence. The company is endeavouring to forge alliance with foreign companies to take the ‘Make in India’ mission further. Thrust is being given to engage with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for new missiles and underwater weapons with potential Transfer of Technology. BDL has forayed into international market by offering its products to foreign countries.

Business area of the company

Bharat Dynamics is engaged in the manufacturing of Missiles and allied Defence Equipments. The company provides majority of its goods and services to the Indian Armed forces and Government of India. The company has graduated from being a missile manufacturer to a Weapon System Integrator and has emerged as a complete solution provider for the Indian Armed Forces. The company has evolved as one among the few industries in the world having state-of-the-art facilities for manufacture and supply of Guided Missiles, Underwater Weapons, Air- borne products and allied defence equipment for the Indian Armed Forces. The company also offers Product Life Cycle Support and Refurbishment / Life Extension of vintage Missiles.

Products

  • TAL (Torpedo Advanced Lightweight): It is a state-of-art underwater weapon which can be launched from a ship and/or a Helicopter.
  • Varunastra or Heavy Weight Torpedo: It is an advanced state-of-the-art, ship launched heavy weight, anti-submarine Torpedo capable of targeting submarines operating in shallow / deep waters.
  • Medium Range Surface - To - Air Missile (MRSAM): It is a high response, quick reaction, vertically launched supersonic missile, designed to neutralize enemy aerial threats – missiles, aircraft, guided bombs, helicopters. Used by Army, Navy and Air Force as different variants.
  • Dishani: It is a directional Sonobuoy and an expendable air-deployed ASW sensor system in a compact, self-contained package comprising of acoustic sensors, electronics, and mechanical assemblies and parachute.
  • Quick Reaction Surface - To - Air Missile (QRSAM): It is a quick reaction Surface to Air Missile capable of Search on Move, Track on Move and Fire on Short halts.
  • Multi - Influential Ground Mines (MIGM): It is equipped with multiple sensors for recording of influences like Acoustic, Magnetic, Pressure, UEP/ELFE signatures as generated by Marine vessels.
  • Vertically Launched - Short - Range Surface To Air Missile: It is a vertically launched Surface to Air Missile with all-weather capability for use by Navy.
  • Flame: Fagot Launcher Adapted to Milan Equipment an indigenously modified cost-effective launcher for firing Milan - 2T ATGM.
  • Konkurs Launcher Test Equipment (KLTE): It is micro-controller-based test equipment to check the serviceability of Konkurs Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) launchers.
  • Akash Weapon System: It is a Short-Range Surface to Air Missile System to protect vulnerable areas and points from air attacks. Akash Weapon System (AWS) can simultaneously engage Multiple Targets in Group Mode or Autonomous Mode.
  • Konkurs Missile Test Equipment (KMTE): It is test equipment to check the serviceability of Konkurs-M ATGMs.
  • Anti - Submarine Warfare Suite (ASW SUITE): BDL is capable of integrating and supplying ASW Suite equipped with systems like Torpedoes, Torpedo Defence System including fire control system. Integration can be customized as per user requirement.
  • Astra Weapon System: It is an indigenously developed Beyond Visual Range Air - to - Air missile comprising of Astra Missile and Launcher.
  • Counter Measures Dispensing System (CMDS): It is a state-of-the-art Flare and Chaff Dispensing System. CMDS is an airborne defensive system providing self-protection to the aircraft against Radar guided & IR seeking missiles by dispensing Chaffs and Flares.
  • Smart Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAAW): It is long range, standoff, precision air-to-surface weapon.
  • C - 303 Anti-Torpedo Decoy Launching System: It is meant to counter the threat posed by any active and/or passive homing Torpedo.
  • Helina (DHRUVASTRA): It is an abbreviation for Helicopter launched NAG and is an Air to Surface Missile system. HELINA is launched from Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH).
  • C 303S Anti-Torpedo Decoy Launching System: It is meant to counter the threat posed by any active and/or passive homing Torpedo.
  • Amogha - III ATGM: It is a third generation fire-and-forget Anti-Tank Guided Missile designed and developed by the in - house R&D Division of BDL.
  • Man Portable ATGM: It is for infantry and Parachute (Special Forces) of the Indian Army. It is 'Soft' launched from a canister using an Ejection Motor. It uses a state-of-the-art IIR seeker for homing on to the target.
  • NAG ATGM: It is a third generation Anti-Tank Guided Missile with Fire and Forget top attack capability.
  • INVAR (3 UBK 20) ATGM: It is a mechanized infantry weapon fired from the gun barrel of T90 tank to destroy armoured vehicles equipped with Explosive Reactive Armour.
  • Konkurs-M ATGM: It is a Second Generation, mechanized infantry ATGM, to destroy armored vehicle equipped with Explosive Reactive Armour, moving and stationary targets.
  • Milan - 2T ATGM: It is a man portable (Infantry) second generation ATGM, to destroy Tanks fitted with Explosive Reactive Armour, moving and stationary targets.
  • Unified Launcher: It is designed for aiming missile 9M111M I 9M113 I 9M113M at a target for launching the missile and guiding in-flight under actual combat conditions, if visual observation of the target is possible.

  • 2019-20: Handed over first Heavy Weight Torpedo (Varunastra) from the production order of Indian Navy during “Bandhan” Programme in February 2020.
  • 2019-20: Akash SAM two regiment order along with GSE has been executed completely. Further, the company has received Akash SAM order worth Rs.1700 Crore for supply of Akash Missiles along with associated spares.
  • 2019-20: Corporate Office of Company has been certified with ISO 9001: 2015 Certification in Feb 2020 by the Certification body M/s.Novo Star Management Solutions India Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru.
  • 2019-20: company has obtained PCMM level-II certification and the first Defence PSU to implement the PCMM level certification for HR Process.
  • 2021-22: The first Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) for delivery to Indian Air Force was flagged off by Director General (Missiles & strategic systems).
  • 2021-22: Guided Flight trials of MPATGM (Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile) with critical sub systems i.e. Seeker, OBPP (On Board Power Pack) and CAS (Control Actuation System) was successfully test fired by DRDL. BDL team was involved in integration and testing of these Missiles.
  • 2021-22: The second control flight of Akash-NG (New Generation) was successfully test fired to ascertain the repeatability of performance and also first guided test with Indigenous RF Seeker was test fired successfully. BDL team was actively involved in integration, testing and check out at Akash NG facility created.
  • 2021-22: New version of Akash Missile- ‘Akash Prime’ has been successfully test fired from integrated Test Range (ITR), Odisha. The missile Intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target mimicking enemy aircrafts. BDL team is involved in integrating and testing, the missiles.
  • 2021-22: DROO successfully test fired surface-to-surface Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Agni-5 from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. BDL team is involved in Rocket Motors integration, Explosives, Final Integration, Testing, Canisterization of Missile and Checkout of A5 Systems.
  • 2021-22: Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MR SAM) Army weapon system has once again proved its effectiveness as two missiles, during the fight tests, achieved direct hits against high speed aerial targets at integrated test range, Chandipur. Odisha.
  • 2021-22: Varunastra, first time ever combat mode firing to test the maximum endurances of the batteries (combat for full length of 20 Km) has been successfully conducted and has met the mission requirements and objectives. Apart from this, three regular practice firings were successfully conducted.
  • 2022-23: Raksha Mantri inaugurated the Warhead facility and virtually inaugurated the RF (Radio Frequency) Seeker facility and Central Storage facility. These facilities are essential for realizing Atmanirbharta in Defence manufacturing by the company.
  • 2022-23: The major products executed during the year are ATGMs, Akash-SAM, Varunastra and MR-SAM.
  • 2023-24: RRM Ajay Bhatt flagged off the indigenously developed and BDL manufactured Astra Missiles for supply to the Indian Air Force in January 2024 at BDL, Kanchanbagh Unit, Hyderabad.
  • 2023-24: The last Varunastra of the order from Indian Navy was flagged off by Dr Y Sreenivas Rao, DS & DG (NS&M) at BDL Vizag Unit in presence of dignitaries from IHQ, ENC, NSTL, NAD & NAI.
  • 2024-25: The company has successfully evaluated trails of new generation ATGMs, upgraded Surface to Air Missiles, Vertical Launched Short Range Surface to Air Missiles (VL-SRSAM), Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missiles (LR-LACM) and Underwater Weapons.
