Bharat Bijlee (BBL) incorporated in 1946 is multi-product, multi-division company. BBL runs two business divisions i.e. Industrial Products- includes transformers, motors and drives; and Contracting i.e. Projects. The company started its operation by manufacturing electric motors.

Later in 1954 company commenced manufacturing of transformers with an investment of Rs. 5.7 lakhs. In 1958 company formed a technical collaboration with Siemens AG to manufacture transformers and motors. In 1965

Later in 1954 company commenced manufacturing of transformers with an investment of Rs. 5.7 lakhs. In 1958 company formed a technical collaboration with Siemens AG to manufacture transformers and motors. In 1965 company set up manufacturing facility spread over 1,93,000 sq. meters of land. This facility was located at Kalwe, Maharashtra.

Originally Siemens India marketed company’s transformers and motors. But later in the year 1980 took control of marketing its product from Siemens India. Company’s motors were distributed by Cable Corporation of India which was taken over by BBL in 1990.

Company broadened its business activities by venturing in manufacturing and installation of Olympus elevators. In 1986-1996 company formed a technical and financial partnership with Schindler, Switzerland. Much later in 2004 company divested its elevator business to a subsidiary of Kone Elevators India.

The company is amongst the leading manufacturer of electric motors and exports most of electrical equipment. Company has its regional offices located at Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata and a national network of sales and service offices.

Products

Electric Motors- Under this company manufactures three phase ac induction motors, special products and pumps. Company has clientele namely Aditya Birla Group, BPCL, Essar Oil, NTPC, Ultratech Cement, Uttam Sugar, Jubilant Organsys and many more.

Transformers- Under this company manufactures Distribution Transformer ranging from 500 KVA to 5000 KVA, up to 33 kV class, Power Transformer ranging from Up to 200 MVA, up to 220 kV class, Generator Transformer and Special Transformer.

Projects- Company undertakes turnkey projects such as setting up Outdoor EHV and  HV Switchyards up to and including 220 kV, Indoor Sub-stations, Overhead and Under Ground Distribution Systems, Industrial Electrification involving lighting and power distribution, Power System Study and Power Evacuation Systems for Power Projects

Company also manufactures AC and DC Drives.

Future Plan

Bharat Bijlee plans to expand its motor manufacturing capacity up to 1.7 Mn HP per annum in future.
