Yeast and its derivatives find application in the manufacture of bread, brewing of beer, and as a source of vitamin in food products and pharmaceuticals. Distiller yeast improvers manufactured by the company are used by distilleries manufacturing alcohol using cane molasses and non-molasses as raw material.

Yeast extract paste and powder are sold as premium products to the food, biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries under the brand name Sunrise. The company had made a reference to the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in September 2002 and was declared a sick industrial company on November 9, 2005. In view of the rehabilitation scheme (package), sanctioned by BIFR in August 2008, the company is restructuring its equity capital base.
