Oscar Investments Limited was incorporated on January 25, 1978 as a public limited company in Mumbai. Subsequently, registered office of the company was shifted from Mumbai to NCR of Delhi. The company is promoted by Malvinder Mohan Singh and Shivinder Mohan Singh, Promoters of Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited, India’s largest pharmaceutical Company.

The company is a Non Banking Finance Company registered with Reserve Bank of India as Loan and Investment Company. The company is a part of Ranbaxy Promoter Group and holds a significant stake in Ranbaxy and other companies promoted by promoters of Ranbaxy.

Japan’s Daiichi Sankyo bought the promoter’s stake in Ranbaxy Laboratories and Oscar Investments was having 4.74% shareholding or a total of 17,698,468 shares in Ranbaxy Laboratories and at Rs.737 a share that Daiichi Sankyo paid for the acquisition, the money to accrue to Oscar was Rs.13.04 billion.

In 2002 Vorin Laboratories Ltd and Oscar Investments Ltd proposed to increase their stake in the sick Hyderabad-based bulk drug manufacturer, Fine Drugs and Chemicals Ltd (FDCL) by making open offer.

In 2007 International Hospitals Ltd (IHL) a Fortis Healthcare subsidiary, together with Oscar Investments Ltd, entered into an agreement for acquisition of about 53% equity of the Chennai-based 180-bed Malar Hospitals Ltd.
