As per the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA), oilmeals exports for the month of June increased by 58% to 250,335 tonnes in June from 158,750 tonnes in the corresponding month of previous year. This healthy growth in the oilmeals export is backed by the record oilseeds production.

The export of oilmeals during April-June 2011 is doubled and reported at 1,072,098 tonnes compared to 536,700 tonnes during the same period of last year”, the SEA said in a statement.

This jump in the oilmeals export is supported by the high production of oilseeds, which increased by more than 20% to 30.25 million tonnes in 2010-11 from 24.88 million tonnes in 2009-10. “Increased availability of oilseeds lead to higher crushing and production of oil and meals for domestic and export” SEA noted.

The major importers of Indian oilmeals are mainly from Asian countries like Japan, China, South Korea and Vietnam. Oilmeals import by Japan from India during April-June 2011 more than is doubled and reported at 240,808 tonnes compared to 91,389 tonnes last year consisting of 235,405 tonnes of soybean meal and 5,403 tonnes of rapeseed meal.
